BODMIN JAIL -

One of Cornwall’s biggest tourism projects is starting to take shape as major works are underway.

Bodmin Jail’s £30 million development to turn part of Cornwall’s 18th century jail into a 63-bed hotel and visitor attraction is progressing well.

Alongside the conversion works, an ecology project has been undertaken to protect the seven species of bats residing on site.

A £95,000 specialist ‘bat bungalow’ and a £7,500 warm loft house have been built for them while trained ecologists monitored the animals.

Bodmin Jail is home to seven of Britain’s 17 bat species’.
